We provide an abundance of opportunities for our children and youth to learn, grow, and serve with their musical gifts. Our goal is to build and nurture lifelong Christians through active praise and worship to God through singing and playing instruments.
Children have many opportunities to engage in musical worship here at First Presbyterian Church:
Musikgarten is a program for parents and their baby/toddler. Classes are led by Susan Kirby and Kelly Posey during the week, and include singing, chanting, moving, dancing, listening and playing simple instruments.
During Sunday school, Lara Woodward and Jerry Monds visit each class, teaching children simple hymns and introduce musical instruments as part of their spiritual development.
Children’s Choirs are offered to children pre-K – 6th grade – the Cherub (Pre-K), Hosanna (K – 1st grade) and Doxology (2nd – 6th grade). Rehearsals are on select Sunday and Wednesday evenings, beginning in the fall. Children rehearse weekly and choirs lead the Sunday morning worship once a month.
Youth Psalmody Choir, for children in 7th – 12th grades, meets in the narthex once a month on Sunday mornings and for special rehearsals throughout the year to prepare for regular worship leadership.
